Race night at Chollas Lake

No-frill hills killed, not "run-of-the-mill" / Tested my will, never time for a li'l chill / i had my fill and i'm no shill / But the race itself was truly a thrill.

Trust me, about 1/2 an hour before this photo was taken yesterday evening, i was hardly smiling!! I finished the evening 4-mile "fun run" (ha!) in just under 36 minutes, hardly my best time. Too much climbing up and through rock-filled meandering dirt trails for my spoiled (read: lazy!) taste.

Here's the place the "fun run" was held:

as a part of this: http://www.sdtc.com/

Peter, of course, finished in 25 minutes. And that was "slow" for him, so he says. He's had a cold for the last week but you'd never know it... he was right up there with the fastest runners. I ambled in 10 minutes after he did, practially ready to upchuck the water i drank pre-race. Peter actually ran the last 1/2 mile or so with me, blistered left foot and all... He's such a great friend!

<---His parents (aren't they so cute?) went to the race as well and watched us (and the 100 or so others) run by a couple of times on the course. They had the girls (who got plenty of attention!) there with them... what the dogs are looking at in this photo might be some of the ducks and geese and squirrels at the "lake" in front of 'em! Chollas Lake is not a lake but rather a small San Diego reservoir, and it's actually quite nice.

Off to take the girls to the beach... Hope everyone is having a productive, fun and safe day...

What wonderful pictures. :)

Good job! I couldn't run four miles. I'm lucky I can bike as I do. ;) Congrats!

would you LOOK at your six-pack! I've lost my ironing board, can I borrow your stomach? HOT HOT HOT!

Congratulations! You might think that was bad timing, but I'm impressed. I couldn't run 4 miles straight if my life depended on it. Sad, but true... and girl, you have a 6 pack! damn!

you go girl! in my book if you finished the race (or even attempted it), you get the gold. i'm so impressed (& inspired) -- you can run & rhyme! :o) & peter's a lucky guy to have such a hottie w/washboard tummy to run with.

i love the photo of his parents dog sitting - they must be great.

Wow! You've got spunk. Way to go girl! And congrats! I was never really much of a runner and since I've had all these back problems, I just can't run without excruitating pain jolting up my spine. It really ticks me off because I used to love to run with Simon. We'd go to the end of the driveway and back. Man, could I feel the burn. Now I have to be content to walk or bike ride. That's OK for now. I'm working on getting the back fixed.

Glad to see Heidi on this outing and looking well.
You and Peter look so cute. Awww! It's fun to do things like this with pals. Great post Kleo!

I remember running a mile in nine minutes in junior high and getting laughed at for it...well, now I prefer a leisurely stroll of 15 hours over 22 miles at 10,000 feet and up, who's laughing now?

Here's a photo of Mount Whitney's "Needles" taken at 12,000 feet in early July. The needles are just south of Whitney (partially seen on the right) and are at 14,000 feet. Yes, the trail really does go up behind there!

kleo - nice race. I'm a very slow runner, well more of a lumbering jogger. I'd be pretty psyched if I comfortably do a 10 min mile.

BTW - You two both look great. Those are some impressive abs you got!

That is so cool that you guys run together! It's also super-cute that his parents (and the girls) come out to watch! What a sweet family!

Holy crap, can I borrow your abs and take them to the beach one day? Just to see what it’s like, ya know.

You are one fit lady. My history with “running” consists of one summer after my sophomore year of high school, and by the end of three months of training I could do 3 miles in 30 min on a treadmill. And I only did that was because my swimming coach insisted on dry land training in the off season, I hated every second of it. Now I doubt I could jog more than a minute without throwing a hissy fit, I just really hate running.

That picture of his parents and the dogs is so precious! <3

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!

First of all, Kleo - you ROCK the entire planet. Totally. I am in complete awe of you.

You should be so proud of yourself!! I know I am!

I ran my first 5K last year, and thought THAT was a challenge. 4 miles in 36 minutes....that's practically GAZELLE speed!

And, truly, you are absolutely gorgeous and fit.

Way to go!

Great you finished the race... you are no longer a "wanna be" athlete. I could walk the 4 mile in a hour, this I know because I often do it. Great job! Love Peter's parents and the doggies too.
