Musical cheers

<---- So there's the photo of me 'n' Rick Springfield backstage. Some nice guy who works for that Fair took it and e-mailed it to me yesterday. Notice the shirt i'm wearin'! It's the "Vegetarians Taste Better" shirt. HA! Ol' Rick's on the phone with a good friend of mine who lives in Connecticut. I called her and kept my phone on for her to hear the concert and she was still on with me when i snuck backstage, so there ya go... It was fun getting to talk to him and get a hug from him.

I've been busy (read: exhausted!) driving in the heat, interviewing peeps and writing stories the last few days. Fortunately, i've also had a couple nights off to play a little. Thanks so much everyone for posting a note to say hello here... I have missed seeing what you have to say on your blogs. I've been playing catch-up tonight and will do more of that tomorrow...

My fave editor and i had a superb lunch at SIPZ, the vegan/vegetarian restaurant that i rave about (ad nauseum, sorry)... and what a sweetie, she gave me two tix to see/hear The Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows later Thursday night. So Peter and i went and enjoyed. Fun show, tho neither of us are huge fans of either band! Going to hear live music is never a bad thing.

Friday i gave blood (anyone else out there A+ blood type?!) for a blood drive that was being held by the San Diego Padres baseball team. They had some vegan options to snack on afterward, which was both surprising and very nice. I was happy to see my iron count was high enough to be allowed to give blood! I'd been concerned since i have been turned down twice in the last few years for low iron. But i've been loading my diet with iron-rich foods in preparation for the bloodletting. :o)

And then in an act of spontaneity, i went with Peter about 50 miles north and east to a Native American casino to hear and see and get moved by and move to the beat of another Peter... Peter Cetera, soulful singer and bass player extraordinaire, one time quite renowned as a member of the band Chicago. Solo for quite some time now, he was even better than i remembered him with the band. He sang and played guitar with an orchestra last night.

It was an unbelievably fantastic show, outside at night in perfect-temperature weather... My pal Peter and i talked to one of the orchestra members after the show, a trumpet player, and he was telling us how all the musicians are freelancers... they just met at the show, practiced a bit and then played. We couldn't believe it. They were tight!

Peter Cetera still looks and sounds tres magnifique at age 62 (ohmygosh, how did that happen?!) I think this photo is of him and his dog. Cute!

Love the photo of you and Rick Springfield. You both look great!
I'm A+ too! I haven't gone to the blood donor clinic in a long while - bad me. Now I feel guilty.

Have a great weekend! I'm not much of a Goo Goo Dolls fan either, but if it's free, why not?

Peter Cetera!!!! LOL - that's great. Glad you enjoyed the show.

Where is SIPZ? I'm going to google it right now....

And finally, that's awesome that you donated blood - it's been awhile for me, and I really should do it. Thanks for reminding me.

Wow, sounds like you had some good times! Love the pic of you and Rick. I like Counting Crows, and Peter Cetera. Time flies, huh? Hard to believe the performers I loved as a kid are getting so old. Means I'm getting old, too.

I have no idea what my blood type is. I spent so much of my young life being under-weight and unable to give blood, so I never cared. I should probably find out now.

Thanks for the comments on my blog. I answered them. :)

In response to Tara's comment:

Hey, you know you're old when you turn on the Classic Rock radio station and the songs they're playing are from your high school days.
Also, when your stepmom says she saw one of your childhood friends at the mall, but didn't recognize him at first because he had gray hair!!! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME???

How cool is that? Great photo of the two of you. Sounds like you guys had a fun time.

I'm a little jealous of that you went Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows. I'd love to see that show.

Then more music later with Cetera, what a great weekend!

I love all the concert posts! I'll admit that live music is the part of my life where I haven't moved beyond 17. I love concerts and I love having teenagers who legitimize my presence :-) Now if I can only figure out a way to get backstage next weekend - we're seeing Jason Mraz and Rob Thomas. I love Mraz.

I'm A+ too! Though once you've had cancer they don't want your donations anymore (which is just as well because my veins are so NOT into being poked). One of my last draws they took out of the inside of my wrist. Pain!

Glad to see you have so much fun!

Wow, you have been busy. Sounds like you have done some fun things. I just finished my last paper for my class (0630 this morning) and completed my presentation so I should be a little less stressed and have more time for surfing (yeah!).
I'm thinking it is abou time to get out of town for a few days and head south to LA. I will be so excited to go to some vegan restaurants.
Love the picture of you with Rick Springfield. That is so cool.

Kleo the celebrity... who is that guy posing with you. :) Love the shirt! I am A+ blood type.... need some? The last time I gave blood I was in the low range of iron count but was able to, however it is typcial for me to keep a low blood pressure. They made me drink a pepsi to raise my blood pressure, weird but I did it.

I am also getting back nto catching up on blogs.

I've been enjoying your blog. Rick Springfield - he's a blast from the past (and he still looks the same)!

I'm A+ too. I haven't been able to donate at our last three blood drives because of low iron (missed it by 2 points). I'm planning to load up on iron rich foods before the next drive.
