Coincidence!?

Wow, talk about timely. I'm headed to Chicago this Sunday and just sat at Farm Sanctuary's booth at the Earth Day Fair last Sunday... I just received an e-mail from Farm Sanctuary, which read in part:

Today, in a historic move, the Chicago City Council banned the sale of cruel foie gras within city limits! The passing of this humane proposal, introduced by Alderman Joe Moore, makes Chicago the first city in America to enact such a measure. The vote relays the humane concerns of Illinois citizens who were recently polled by Zogby, revealing an overwhelming 79 percent of whom agree that foie gras production should be banned in the state. This legislation will have repercussions across the country.

HOW COOL IS THAT!!??

Wow. I'm kvelling.

That is a great victory! People around the world have spoken out against the cruelty of foie gras. Israel, Germany, Italy, and Turkey are just a few of the countries that have banned the force-feeding of animals. Why does it take us so long in the US? I guess recently, Schwarzenegger signed legislation outlawing the production and sale of foie gras in California, but not until 2012!

vicki, it sure is!!! HOORAY! This is one of the few things I am grateful to Gov. Schwarzenegger for putting into action...

The legalization of ferrets would be nice, but that was huge for Arnold! I'm proud of (sing it w/me!): my kinda town, Chicago is...

Terrific news! I hope this happens in other places in this country, and this is why Farm Sanctuary is a charity that I give to.
