The Zench & Shania Twain

The first time my pal Peter & i were at Patrick's Point together was in February of 2005.

We had just finished running a race called "The Trinidad to Clam Beach Run" http://www.trinidadtoclambeach.com/ (which he of course WON - the 5 3/4-miler; i was third in my age group).

We were going to go to Larrupin Cafe for dinner that night and had some time to "kill" between the race and dinner, so we decided to take a journey through Patrick's Point, the place where we returned just a couple o'weeks ago to camp & hike, etc.

While hiking in 2005, we found this amazing bench among the redwoods that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. We named it "Zench" because it was such a peaceful Zen-like setting for a bench to be. He took a photo of it in all its glory, all by itself, and used it on his super cool business cards. So this time when we went back, happy to see it again, we took photos with it, "just because."

I have to tell you, i'm so proud of that long-sleeve shirt i am wearing! I had just bought it a day earlier at a second-hand store that benefited Arcata Hospice. It says "Humboldt State Basketball" on there. Like i went to college @HSU or something. HA! I sorta wish i had...

Go Lumberjacks!

Happy belated (28 August) 41st b'day & wishes for a great year ahead to: Shania "I think there's something odd about eating another living anything" Twain...

Hi Kleo! :) :) Look at you, so gorgeous and healthy and happy! (And on one darn cool Zench too! Lol!) That's really great to get to go back to the Zen-bench and get more photos! lol! It looks like such a beautiful location.

What a great find on the new shirt! Benefitting the hospice makes it even better, I can see why you are proud of it!

I love your photos and seeing your smiling face on all these blog entries!! Thanks for sharing your trips with us!!

3rd in your age group??? Gosh darn it, girl.....that is awesome...and Peter first? Look at the two of you, bringing home the hardware! lol I checked out the run website and how beautiful the location is. You live in such a beatiful area of our country. I have been on an extended (going into my 2nd month) break from running. Man, this is making me want to get my shoes out of the closet and leash up Cosmo and hit the pavement again :-)

Loved reading about the "zench". How cool. And wow, WTG Peter and WTG Kleo with your race finishes. I'm definitely not much of a runner. I'm so impressed :) Not suprised though because you both are in tip-top shape!

What a nifty shirt you found. Now you can think of your vacation everytime you wear it. And it's always great when you can buy from a thrift store that supports a worthy cause like a hospice.

Love the Zench... you two are so cute... your "pal"... hmmmm... ;-)

I'm a huge fan of thrift shop scores... especially those that benefit charity.

Ok...so, let me get this straight. You guys ran a 5 mile race and then just wandered on over to your favorite restaurant afterwards for a bite? Gurl, you are my running/fitness hero! I do an hour of cardio and I'm pretty much done for the night. :) Also, congrats on coming in 3rd!

I love the pics on your "Zench". You both look so happy.

Zench! That is so darn cute but not have as cute as you and Peter. Way to go on the thrift shop find - I'm totally with you on the HSU. I once had a UCSB college sweatshirt I got at a thrift shop when I was in junior high and I remember LOVING it. I wore the darn thing out. Stitched and re-stiched until it just couldn't be patched anymore.

Love the quotes and the Zench.

Did you have to train a long time before you started running races? 5 3/4 seems like a long distance to me.

Kleo - you do know how much I appreciate your words of wisdom, don't you?

And sometimes in life, we need to go through certain things in order to figure out how to survive them, unfortunately. Whatever events took place - you have risen above them now - you're a beautiful person with so much zest for life. And I admire that!:-)

My goal for now, is a positive thought everyday. Before I fall asleep at night, I will think about at least one thing I'm thankful for. THANK YOU again for helping me see the importance in doing that.

Hey! I'm still around. I've been catching up on blogs and the pictures you've been posting are soooo cool. It looks like you and Peter had such a nice, relaxing get-away. BTW, That puppy in the previous post is FRIGGIN' ADORABLE!
I have no hockey predictions. I suck at them anyway. Actually, I have two....Toronto will make the play-offs. They will not win the Stanley Cup. Other than that, I couldn't tell you a thing.
Hey! I saw on VH1 Classic that Rick Springfield is ON TOUR!! Keep your eyes and ears open. He may be coming to a town near you!

I am bad and smoke (in the middle of trying to give up) and unfortunately could never tackle a run even though I can walk fast for quite a distance.

Love your zench such a nice spot you can almost feel it from the photo.

Humbolt was on my list of potential colleges when I was in high school. Didn't end up going. Wish I had, in hindsight. ;)

Great pics! :)

What a great spot for a bench... You are too cute with your hair all draped over... You are in such good shape.

It seems like a lot of us celebrate an 8/28 b-day. I had a great b-day with a new guy. Here's hoping it works out :)

Hi Kleo!! Thanks for the comment! I figured I'd answer you here about the wheatgrass. I'll definitley blog about it and it's benefits soon. People are curious. LOL! I disguise the horrible taste by mixing with apple juice. Some people mix in into a "green" drink, but I can't deal with the taste. I love the apple juice combination. :) :)

Gomasio...MMM! here is the definition:

Gomasio is used as a replacement for salt on whole grains (brown rice!), soups, stews, vegetables, it's a delicious way to reduce sodium, while adding a little calcium, magnesium, iron, protein, and fiber. Gomasio is made by grinding dry-roasted sesame seeds with salt. (I add bits of nori too) I read all that on this blog post:

http://fanaticcook.blogspot.com/2005/01/gomasio-sesame-salt.html

It's good stuff, and I'm always happy to try to reduce my adding plain salt to everything! :P

:) Hope you are having an awesome weekend!!!!
