The summer season & over 101 reasons
Last few photos from the trip to Humboldt County!
During one of our hikes, this one at the Prairie Creek
Redwoods State Park way north of where we camped
at Patrick's Point, Peter and i spotted this tree. It had
branches that were swept to the side on top. Neat!
At the Farmer's Market in Arcata, we spotted this
little pup and her four-legged mom as well as her
two-legged "other" mom and got some snuggle time.
We really missed Heidi and Mattie a LOT. We saw
sooooo many dogs (and quite a few cats) on the trip.
We snuck into the back of the esteemed Larrupin Cafe in Trinidad
on a day it was closed (Wednesday?) and there was this papier
mache cow there that i had to stop and get close to... (We
saw lots of cows on our drives all over NoCal, but i did not
get to get up close and personal w/'em. I wanted to, too!) At
the back of the cafe, there is a gorgeous garden. We ran our
hands thru some rosemary and got some free aromatherapy,
then picked some wild blackberries and ate 'em. Good times.
We ate at Larrupin a couple nights later and the waitress,
a former vegan (*sigh*) had the chef whip me up a groovy
vegan meal of portobello mushrooms cooked in olive oil
and some rosemary potatoes and a few other little goodies.
I was thrilled. We had "had" that waitress a year ago February
when we were on vacation and she remembered having the
chef prepare a tofu-and-veggie-skewered grilled dish for me.
They were out of tofu this time. But what i had was darn good,
albeit pricey. But that's Larrupin, a very romantic place *wink*.
Cool light inside a store at the Arcata Plaza.
Breakfast at Wildflower Cafe (posted about it earlier).
Peter's eyes look crazed, no? Too much coffee!?!?! :o)
Relaxing after enjoying a great "hot tub" in Arcata.

Not negative, all tongue-in-cheek, really.

Vegetarian quotes:

I like this one from Leo Tolstoy:
"'Thou shalt not kill' does not apply to murder of one's own kind only, but to all living beings; and this Commandment was inscribed in the human breast long before it was proclaimed from Sinai."
Do you have a favorite?

Great pic of that cool looking tree. Love the pic of you with the "cow". And wild blackberries? Oh those sound delightful!!!! I'm jealous! That's awesome the chef at Larrupin made you a vegan meal :)
Ha ha, Peter does looks a little hopped up on some caffeine in that pic. You look terrific in that pic!!! Awww, the last pic of you two...You both look so cute and happy. Love it!
Enjoyed reading the 101 reasons. Thanks for posting that link.

You two look so happy... what a great vacation you had! I love that lamp..
I'm so impressed the waitress remembered you! That is awesome.
Love the pic of Peter and the puppy! Awwww...
It was very nice of the people at the restaurant to make you a yummy dinner you could actually eat. :) We had portabello mushrooms this weeknd. They are my favorites!
I loved this one on the 101 Reasons list:
9. People think you're a radical, tree-hugging peacenik, which maybe you are, but still....
Is there something wrong with being a tree-huggin', dirt worshippin' pagan? :)
that all sounds so lovely! i want that puppy!! it's too much.
Looks like you had a wonderful trip and the photos are great :)
I want that light fixture. Seriously!
The 101 reasons are too funny. I liked:
22. You tell someone you're vegan, and then they offer you chocolate and cheese nachos!
Seems like 22 ALWAYS happens to us when we try to eat out. Grrr...
Great quote resource. I've always liked:
A mind of the calibre of mine cannot derive its nutriment from cows. ~George Bernard Shaw
Along with...
Think of the fierce energy concentrated in an acorn! You bury it in the ground, and it explodes into an oak! Bury a sheep, and nothing happens but decay. ~George Bernard Shaw
A very romantic psot, yes. Peter's eyes do look carzed... I think my children would say I look like that on my way TO the coffee pot each morning. :O)
Wow, so many cool pix! Thanks for sharing.
The pictures from your trip look so awesome. They make me want to go camping.
My fav reason not to be vegan is #3 People who've heard you're a vegan expect you to be really thin when they meet you. Sorry!
That puppy is adorable. Made my heart melt.
You and your Peter look absolutely smitten with each other. Ain't love grand? Glad you had a fabulous time.
And finally, I wanted to THANK you for something you posted in my comments awhile ago...about there being a lot of power in positive thinking. I've been remembering that a lot lately, and it's been so helpful. You couldn't be more right, and I thank you for that.:-) You really brightened my day.
Wow--what a trip. Bliss. I'm so happy that you're having so much fun.
My favoite veggie-esque quote lately is" The world only moved forward b/c of those who oppose it." Goethe.
here are my favs:
If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.
Animals are my friends... and I don't eat my friends.
I did not become a vegetarian for my health, I did it for the health of the chickens.
and my favorite one:
If you're not vegan, you're not vegetarian.
Looks like you are having a great time!
Looks like a great trip!!
i like "if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone woudl be vegetarian"
looks like a great trip. CUTE puppy...i just wanna squeeze it's puppy breath right out of him! (or her)
When I saw your title, all my mind read was "summer season" and "over" and I thought "nooooo!!!" because you live in Cali and I live in Minnesota. So, if it was over for you, it's more over for me.
Then I came to my senses and read the title fully. Whew! (looks like Teddy's brain read the same thing)
Thanks for sharing the quote from Leo Tolstoy. I get confused with religious fantatics who insist that marriage is only between man and woman because that's what the Bible says, but they have no problem eating/killing animals. I thought "thou shall not kill" applied to all living beings.
Ah...enough talking/typing from me. Have a great day!!

Just popping over to say *hi* I'm back from my mini vacation! LOVE the photos you've posted. it looks like such a magical place!

Kleo, I've loved seeing all your pictures. They're so beautiful and unique and fun... Thanks for sharing your vacation with us!
Hi, K!
I love, love seeing all the "enjoying life" photos here. Thank you for sharing!
About the produce stand question on my blog: Yes, that's S. Robert Trail, better known as Hwy 3.
Hey, great pics! I love the puppy. And, seriously, didn't summer go by in a blink this year?
Hey - great Arcata pics. I have family in Arcata and Eureka and love the coast up there. One of hubby's cousins got married at Wedding Rock - many years ago. It was so sweet and lovely. It sounds like a wonderful trip. Next time - stop over my way!
What a special summer you have had. Your wonderful abundant photos just sing of sun and warmth and joy.
I hope autumn brings different but also special moments, best wishes, The Artist
Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. ~Albert Einstein
Had to come back to read the links... this one is my favorite.
Looks like a great vacation... I'm jealous :)
looks and sounds like you had a wonderful time. i can't wait to go on vacation myself. i'm sorry i've been out of the loop for a while. i haven't been feeling 100%.
Looks like you two had a fabulous time! You too look so cozy at that cafe having breakfast. I am so impressed you spelled papier mache right!
I get all misty eyed when I am on vacation and I see other people's pups. When I was in Salem, Mass, they had a little dog show (a fun one with an obstacle course and all types of dogs- not a purebred one)and I stayed and watched the whole thing and played with people's dogs.
