Calling all veg athletes (and wannabes like me)

Another stellar read from The Arizona Star
published this past Tuesday by Jennifer Duffy:

"On Pace:
Can a vegan diet fuel an athlete?
He says yes"

http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/128941

Great reading there for me, to be sure.

NO SALAMI ?!!?

"The da Vinci Code" in movie form is out and there is much talk
about it, as there has been since the best-selling book was published.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a hoax or not:

The best lines from above link:

(da Vinci Code author) Dan Brown revealed that Mona Lisa was a play on words using the Greek gods of fertility Amon and Isis.

The Vegans claim that the real joke was rearranging the letters of Mona Lisa to make "No Salami."

i *heart* Leonardo da Vinci, vegetarian and animal-lover extraordinaire!

See: http://www.ivu.org/history/davinci/hurwitz.html

...(T)he time will come when men such as I
will look upon the murder of animals
as they now look upon the murder of men.
-Leonardo da Vinci

Hey- Here comes my teacher side- The Mona Lisa is based on a real person- Lisa del Gioconda- she was the wife of a wealthy businessman. I wrote a 10 page paper on Leonardo's portraits of women when I was in College. What an amazing man.

That's so cool. Great info to know. Thanks, Karen!! I'll bet the paper you wrote is super interesting!

Oh wow
I had no idea that Da Vinci was a veg-head too! That is amazing. The interview went well yesterday too. Looks like it's going to be a good weekend.

Talk to you later

From the first link, there was mention of "high ranking members of the Secret Society of Vegans". Do you know anything about this?

Carrie, I am not sure. That's why i think it might be a hoax...

It sounds so sinister but in a good way!

Thanks for the links esp. for the veg athletes one!

Great article about the raw foods cyclist! It might have been nice to balance that out with, say, a vegan who doesn't follow a raw foods diet, to make veganism sound more attainable.

Since going vegan a year and a half ago, I am definitely a better athlete.

:o) to all the nice comments here...

speedvegan, Harmonia and VeganDoc, as you are all aware, veganism is certainly misunderstood by a lot of peeps. And for sure most mainstream media types are completely clueless, believe me, i know it! So seeing an article like that was very good indeed...

Dan Brown must really not be a smart man. I studied Ancient Greek 5 years: why claim something that is unsustainable no only on the point of vew of ethymology but also from the art history perspective???
Duh...
