Ewe are what ewe eat

Central coastal California, Big Sur, Pacific Grove, i miss you so...
That's Peter, above, as we both stood awe-struck staring at the sunset.

A sweet seal basking in the Pacific Grove semi-sun...
saw him on a nice little afternoon run...
(see next photo)

Oh, hey! Just passing through with a message or two:

ROOTS OF COMPASSION

Peter & i heard and saw "Weird Al" Yankovic in concert last night. (At the [icky] San Diego Fair [icky because of the animal abuse and the hypocrite behaviour that goes on at county fairs]). Such a great show he puts on. And i love him more for his animal-loving, vegan WAYs...

http://weirdal.com/

http://www.myspace.com/weirdal

i've written it before and i'll type it again, Alfred's an engaging, witty artist, a bit tied to the past (he's got that '70s vibe i'm attracted to) while fully engaged "in the present" with a keen eye on the future.

If he's comin' to a venue near you, what can i tell ya? GO! Really. Trust me. He's got a rockin' band behind him that blows me away. But be warned, Al seems to attract bookish, somewhat eclectic (read: odd) "word nerds" (such as myself)... *shrugs*... there are worse things, to be sure...

Uh, can i just say for the record?
i love peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. always have.

hewwo wittle, pb&j. i wuv u.

I LOVE Weird Al, I would defintely go and see him if he made it to my part of the world. And that shot of Big Sur, and the seal, almost made me cry, seriously. (I'm trying to heal stress fractures in my feet and I'm worried about my hiking plans this summer being ruined because of it.)Here's hoping they heal and I get to take my own great pics like those. And that seal....so cute! Being a Canadian, I have a certain amount of guilt about the seal hunt just by living here, even though I heartily hate it and hope it comes to an end. Great post!

great post! thanks for the links!!!

Good to see you posting! Gorgeous pictures. Thanks for the coupon, those are lower cal than tofutti cuties, I’ll definitely be giving ‘em a try.

Whenever I think of Weird Al I think of a play I was in years ago called Pippi Long Stalking (as in celebrity stalker, clever, get it?). The writer/director got the idea for the play from his sister who is obsessed with Weird Al and went to well over 100 of his concerts. A little weird if you ask me. ;)

I love pB&J sandwiches soooo much. I hope my daughter comes to love them when she grows up too.;-)

And I will definitely try the ice-cream minis - not sure if they're available in Canada, but worth a try! I do love my tofuttis, though.

Glad you're well - that's a beeautiful picture of the sunset!

I love the pic of you "just passing through" I was wondering if you got in to see Weird Al. He used to do a program on Much Music years ago (that's the Canuck version of MTV for anyone who is wondering). He was the VJ and would ramble on about whatever was happening at the time or was on his mind & play some videos. I was hoping for some photos of you telling him what to do.
Thanks for the coupons! Perfect for summer. I'm going to check them out right now and see if it's 'USA only'. You have yourself a great weekend!!

The photos of the sunset and the seal are so gorgeous, really... And wow - you saw "Weird" Al! That's too much fun - I love his music and his vegan ways.

Mmm, PB&J.

Oooo, just checked. It doesn't say anything. YES!! I love ice cream sandwiches. Almost as much as PB&J. (Instead of jelly, I prefer raspberry jam). I always list PB&J as one of my favorite sandwiches, because IT IS!! My dad like PB&B (peanut butter & banana) so that could be another good choice. I love that website you linked us to. Who knew all the benefits of the lowly peanut butter sandwich?! Maybe Al Gore should eat a few - HAHAHAHA!! I have many fond memories of PB&J as a child. Too bad there are so many schools that won't allow peanut products. I think the kids are missing out on a very important part of childhood. Don't you?

The kids and I saw Weird Al several years back.. he does put on a fun show..

I saw Weird Al many many years ago at the Greek Theatre in LA. I can't remember who else was there now, I think it was one of the Monkees tours one of the years after their big reunion tour (where they toured with Herman's Hermits and some other 60s bands). He was great.

Those photos of Big Sur and all are gorgeous. I wish my photos of that area had turned out better. I'd love to go back to California just to take another trip up the coast.

My hubby is a PB&J freak. ;) I can tolerate them. My real love (many moons ago, of course, I don't eat them anymore) was PB&Honey.

I know what you mean about the county fair. Mom showed a couple of her goats there exactly once and never again. Those poor critters are standing in their own slop all day long while city people oogle at them as if they're from outer space.

I'm jealous about Weird Al playing your way and I missed it! Maybe he'll do a show in Reno one of these days ;/

Love the pics of your trip. When I was in high school we would always ditch and go hang out on the beach. I heard a rumor that there are only 3 high schools in the US that are actually on the sand and MBHS is one of them (I've also heard that 87% of statistics are made up so who knows). Such a great place to grow up.

Marty & I went to see Weird Al in concert a few years ago. It was a lot of fun. There was a guy standing in front of us with a shaved head. He had a crazy tatoo on the back of his head that looked like this: http://www.truckerphoto.com/PDRM0727-m.jpg

It totally freaked and creeped me out and I made Marty move to a different part of the arena. I swear, the eyes wouldn't stop following me.

I eat a PB&J at least once a week. They're so yummy but I feel like they're more of a dessert than a lunch. Marty would eat them every day if he lived alone.

Your posts are like a gift :-) I don't know where you find all those links but I like 'em. Thanks so much for all your encouraging words on my blog. And oh, Weird Al rocks!

what a fun, eclectic post! i enjoyed it so much. great links, although i haven't clicked on all of them yet :) i love the pb&j campaign that you link to, though; i was looking at it a few days ago and i think it's such a smart and simple message.

KleoPatra,
Thanks for all the sweet little comments you left - I giggled as I read them and felt uber accepted as a new blogger. I spent at least 30 minutes "spying" on your blog and can definitely concur with the following points:
1. Weird Al - very creative, love him.
2. PB&J - I eat so much PB it's ridiculous!
3. Bowling for animals sounds like fun, although with my awful skills, I'm not sure much money would have been raised...(-:

Thanks for the vegan inspiration.

I want everyone to be a vegan. What a wonderful world that would be.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

I too love PB&J sandwiches, but sadly I made my strawberry jam too thick this time and it is very hard to spread on a sandwich, maybe I should try slicing it instead!

Great photos.

that seal!!!!!!!!

I thought it was a fish until you mentioned that it was a seal and I look closer at it.

I tried to be a vegan but I just cant control myself not to eat meat and also here there is a limited variety of foods for vegans

I'll definitely have to see whether Al is near my way. A guy that went to my school looked exactly like him he got teased but not by me.

I never quite grasped how an environmentalist could not be a veggie? Maybe one day I'll make the connection until that time I'm in the dark.

That seal is sooo cute. This whole post is so great, I like Weird Al too! And PB&J! Woo.
And thanks for your thoughts about my Dad.. I've been thinking about him a lot lately. It really sucks sometimes. :-\ But thanks again, I love the blog circuit and my blog friends.

Thanks for your comments on my blog! :) Oh, and PB & J (smooth and strawberry jam) is one of my favorite lunches/breakfasts/snacks ever.

When I was living in London, all of my British friends were appalled by the notion of PB & J. Their version of filling student food is "beans on toast". Literally, a can of baked beans dumped on toast. They didn't believe me when I told them that PB & J was a million times better. :)

Cheers!

Great links as usual.

Cute picture of the seal. Sadly Namibia is butchering thousands of males and baby seals from 1st July. They say it is to protect fish but you know the pups skins are for fur coats and the males for sexual organs for Japanese virility, if it was for meat or to protect fish why are they leaving females ? Had a protest at the Namibian Embassy in Pretoria South Africa Saturday but doubt it will help, breaks my heart :(

I love that picture of you running - the caption made me laugh.

Wow, you definitely have beautiful areas to run in. Although Minnesota is beautiful and full of lakes, my typical run path (near my house) is full of dirt mounds and I pretend they are mountains :) I think they actually make concrete blocks out of the dirt, but oh well. I try!

What a wonderfully graphic blog! I will return and be a pest!
Perhaps you might be able to help with my final transition from vegetarian to vegan?
Since I have a soya allergy, I am trying to find a replacement for fromage frais in my breakfast...

I've been a fan of McDougall's for years. Good guy.

I'm with you about meat-eating environmentalists. It irks me no end that Al Gore won't even consider becoming a vegan. It's the single greatest environmental contribution a single human can make.

And it's off the table for most environmentalists. They just love their meat too much. And becoming vegans is too much of a sacrifice. They want others to make sacrifices.

I love Weird Al too! I'm envious that you saw him! He is so great and even Britty laughs at his sense of humor! I remember being addicted to Al tv way back when! :)

Your vacation looks like it was lots of fun. I love the photos with the sunset, the seal <3, and you smiling on your run! :) I look around in the day and see so many gloomy people. I wish more people were energetic and smiley and friendly like you.

*hugs*
